From Engineering to Real Estate Success
Eddie Gant, who runs an independently owned and operated franchise with HomeVestors® of America, Inc. (HVA), has built a thriving real estate empire in Texas. His journey to becoming one of Texas’s most successful real estate investors wasn’t a conventional one. Originally from Mississippi, his early career saw him working in engineering and sales roles, including a stint as a regional sales manager for Hilti, covering South Texas and Louisiana.
But Eddie’s passion for sales and business ownership ultimately led him to take a leap into real estate investing. That decision would pave the way for a long and successful career as a HomeVestors franchisee.
The start of a HomeVestors® journey
Eddie’s entry into real estate began in June 1999 after seeing an ad for the HomeVestors franchise in the Houston Chronicle. Intrigued, he attended a HomeVestors seminar, where he met the company’s founder, Ken D’Angelo, and future co-president, Ken Channell. That night, Eddie was the last person to leave the room—he was determined to go all in.
And go all in, he did. By the end of his first six months, Eddie had already purchased 15 houses. In the years that followed, he steadily grew his home-flipping business:
- Years 2–4: Purchased around 40 houses per year.
- Beyond year 4: Increased to over 100 houses per year.
- To date: Has bought, rehabbed, or sold over 1,800 properties.
Eddie’s success with buying and selling houses came from his unwavering commitment to doing things the right way—a core value within the HomeVestors culture. The brand’s well-known mantra, “Always Do It Right,” became the foundation of his business philosophy.
Rapid growth as a HomeVestors® franchisee
Beyond running his own real estate investment businesses, Advantage House Buyers and A2 Housebuyers, Eddie has also taken on a leadership role within HomeVestors. As a HomeVestors Development Agent (DA), he offers real estate mentorship and supports new HomeVestors franchise owners in the Houston and San Antonio markets, helping them with their real estate investment strategies.
He tells newcomers:
“My advice for anyone getting started in real estate investing is simple: become a HomeVestors independent business owner. They have the best lead machine, mentoring, and coaching available. I would not be here after 25 years if it were not a great system.”
Looking to the future
As Eddie looks ahead to 2025, he remains optimistic about the real estate market, though he acknowledges that interest rates need to come down into the 5% range for optimal conditions. He predicts a slow but steady decrease and expects his own business to continue thriving as market uncertainties settle.
While technology continues to reshape the industry, Eddie firmly believes one thing will never change:
“Real estate will always be a ‘people’ business.”
